Sometimes the most simple image can express how you feel about someone—especially if it comes in the form of a pop-up greeting card.
At times, I find clients feel as though they get less value with design if the design is simple and elegant. They feel that white space is wasted space—a notion with which I totally disagree. It’s important to remember what your site should accomplish and to design it with those intentions in mind. I really like the simplicity of this site—it’s clean, well-organized and helps the company show up as a very confident player in their field. If you need too many “bells and whistles” with your design, it’s possible that you may show up more as a carnival barker than an expert in your craft.
Cavallum Wine Lamp designed by Ciclus I Country: Spain
The Cavallum is a box of cava (the Catalan equivalent to French champagne) or wine that transforms into an elegant lamp. The piece has been praised in prestigious ecologycal webs, like Treehugger.com, and will be featured in IDN World magazine, in Hong Kong.
Cavallum Wine Lamp when turned on. Nice, huh? :)
Crafted by the Deglon family in Thiers, the French capital of fine cutlery, the Meeting Knife Set was designed by Mia Schmallenbach. Understandably, her design took home first prize in the 5th Bourse Européenne de la creation coutelière. The set comprises a paring knife, a carving knife, a chef’s knife and a filleting knife that seamlessly interlock together in a matching block of stainless steel. Using the Fibonacci sequence, a tradition dating back to the Renaissance, the knives are designed to perfectly fit your hand.
Great design will not sell an inferior product, but it will enable a great product to achieve its maximum potential.
When I first sat down to write this article, I began to write in depth about the history of the cocktail. After a few paragraphs, I realized that I had only just gotten to the Prohibition era. At this rate, I wondered how many words it would take me to get into recipes. Maybe it was time to try a different intro…
People ignore design that ignores people.
